We are now in Kanab, Utah. We spent Mother's Day hiking along the rim of the Grand Canyon under blue skies and warm temperatures and cooling winds so the walk was great. In the two days we walked almost the whole length of the rim walk. Miss about a mile on the west end. Didn't see any of the condors, but we did see them last time we were here.
The drive to Kanab was really beautiful. The cliffs are a wonderful red color interlaced with the browns and whites, and so tall.
Tomorrow we will be in St. George and in driving distance to Zion National Park. The weather is continuing warm and no rain. I am enjoying the heat. We didn't make it to the North Rim of the Canyon because it didn't open until after we left. Maybe next time.
That's all for now. Til later.

May 12, Grand Canyon
T
And this little fellow was very thirsty and looking for a drink where the hikers filled their water bottles.
The weather has been really nice. Very cool at night, in the 30's, and around 80 during the day with just enought breeze to keep you comfortable while walking. It is really fun walking along the rim of the Grand Canyon. Wish my granddaughter. Allie, was here. She could translate all the different conversations around us. Heard lots of French, some German, and some I wasn't sure which country they were from. Everyone was in awe of the big canyon. I really don't know how people can walk all the way to the bottom and back up again. One of the rangers was telling about friends that would race him. He would drop them off on the North Rim and drive around to the South Rim, and they would be waiting for them. Of course, these guys are in their 20's, Maybe im my next life. We did make it from the visitor's center to Angel Bright Lodge. I say it was 3 miles but Marv says it was only 2. Tomorrow we will finish the western walk and maybe do some of the east part. Then take the Desert View drive on our way out. Marv just added it up and it was over 3 miles. Yahoo.
He does like to live on the edge. I get nervous every time he goes out there.
Guess that does it for today. Will post this while I have a connection.
Til later.

Las Vegas
We are now in beautiful Las Vegas, at Sam' s Town, which is on the Boulder Highway about 8 miles for the Strip. We spent last night at the casino and played the slots. We were really big spenders. Lost $4 on the penny slots, so it took us a very long time.
The weather has been great, with the temperature close to 100. It hasn't been too bad. And I think the humidity isn't all that low. Of course, on the down side, the refrigerator quit working, again. We have had trouble with it over the last couple of years, and have debated about getting a new one. Well, the choice was made for us and we were lucky that there was a Camping World in town and they had a refrigerator. And it only took a couple of hours. The cats weren't too happy because they got locked in the bedroom. But all is well now.
We really didn't want to go down to the Strip, but being in Las Vegas, and Marv being a fan of "Pawn Stars", we had to go find the Pawn Shop. Wasn't hard to find, and there were lots of people, but none of the "stars". Did take a couple of pictures just to prove that we were there.
Tomorrow we take off and head for the Grand Canyon. We have reservations, so don't have to push too hard, but it will be one of the longer days. I get to spend Mother's Day at the Canyon. Might make it a Grand Mother's Day.
Guess that is all for now. Til later.

Hawthorne, Nevada
We are now setting in Hawthorne, Nevada and the temperature is 84. Or is was earlier this afternoon. It has been beautiful the last few days, since we left Oregon. I am more than ready for the warm weather.
Yesterday we left Eureka and drove across the coast range into the central valley of California, in the sunshine and blue skies. It was really nice to see the fresh green on the trees. And hear the birds singing. We stayed the night in Sacramento and was a very warm 90 degrees. Love it.
Today we went across more mountains, Donner Pass is over 7,000 feet and Hawthorne is above 4,000. Big change from 10 feet above sea level. We even saw some snow along side of the road.
The first picture is of Donner Pass just before you get into Nevada.
This is Smokey, waiting for us to get back into the truck.
And this is Mocha. They do like to look out the windows.
We head for Las Vegas tomorrow where we will stay for a day, then on to the Grand Canyon. We are finally making some progress, but slowly.
The cats are finally settling down in the truck. But they do have to complain and comment on everything for the first hour or so. That might get better as they get more use to it. They do love being in the trailer when we stop for the night.

It is a beautiful day today, the sun is shining, not much wind, and we are in Eureka, California. Spent the day getting a new cell phone and service that will work for us and a new battery for my camera. Everything seems to be wearing out at the same time. Hope that doesn't mean me too.
Tomorrow we will head down the coast to Sacramento then the day after, head for Reno. Maybe we can win a little. Just kidding.
We really haven't done much that is exciting. The garage sales in Brookings were just so-so. And we didn't really find anything. A few books and that is about it. Finally the sun has come out and everything is drying out. Will try and make the next post more interesting.
Til then.

We are in Brookings and it is pouring down rain, plus being windy. We will be here until Sunday, then we head south and east, hopefully to warmer weather.
We are at Harris State Park and there is no wifi, and my phone has a small (very small) window where it can recieve text messages only. Even in town, T-Mobile does not have service. Hope it gets better in other places.
The cats are all settled in and are traveling good. They do like the trailer and haven't tried to get out at all. Of course, if they do, they would get wet and they don't like that.
So that is all for now. Till next time.

It is Tuesday night and we finally have wifi. It has been up and down all day, so will try and get this posted while I can. Wonder if it is because of the rain we have had today. Seems like a normal day at the beach.
The last couple of days have been rainy but very lucky. Yesterday we went to the casino, signed up for the Players Club and each got $10 of free play on the slots. Neither one of us is much of a gambler, but we sat there and used up the $10. I came up with $8.40. Thought I did really well, but Marv cashed out with $15. We had enough to pay for dinner at the Buffet. Which was pretty good. They also had a thing called Community Cash, where you put in receipts from different businesses. The RV Park where we are staying was one of the businesses. So we got a few entries. Lo and behold, Marv's name was drawn as one of the winners and we received $50 in script which we turned into gas for the truck. All in all it was a pretty lucky day for us.
To sweeten the pot, we received our new credit cards this afternoon from UPS, so we are good to go on the next leg of our trip.
We will leave in the morning to head south. Hopefully, the rain will let up some and we can get some sun, but we might have to go farther south before that happens. We should be in Brooking tomorrow night, but will not have wifi in the trailer. That means that we will be have to go to the Salty Dog coffee shop to use their wifi. Such a hardship. And I don't think we will have cell service at Harris Beach. But we will be in town often enough.
Our trip is in the first stages and seems to be going well. Take care until next time.
